What is a raster, used for what?
A raster is one of two basic data structures that uses a field divided into a grid of cells or pixels, used to represent continuous (or discrete) data. such as temperatures or elevations.
What is vector, what used for?
a vector is one of two basic data structures that uses points, polygons, and lines. used for discrete data (People Places defintite things)

Discrete data
(object) clearly defined object such as a tree or house
Continuous Data
field, an object that exists everywhere and may vary continuously, temperature, elevation
