11.1 Explain what is meant by quality planning

A
  • ‘Quality’ is the fitness for purpose or the degree of conformance of the outputs of a process to requirements
  • Quality management is a displine for ensuring that the outputs, benefits and processes by which they are delivered meet stakeholder requirements
  • Quality planning is the starting point for establishing quality in a project. It takes the defined scope of the project or next phase and specifies the criteria used to validate that the outputs fit requirements
  • The quality plan will be created and agreed with the sponsor as part of the PMP
  • It sets out the desired attributes of work and how these can be measured, referencing regulations, standards, specifications and organisational values. It also says how frequently these checks are to be carried out and the required resources.
  • Guides the planning of quality controls and assurance activities throughout the project

11.2 Differentiate between quality control and quality assurance

A

Quality control: inspection, measurement and testing to verify that the project outputs meet acceptance criteria. Focused on preventing problems being passed on to customer. can be done by a member of the team. Verifies compliance.

Quality assurance: builds in quality through the consistent use of standard processes and procedures (how the project is managed). Should be done by someone outside the project team. Provides confidence.
