Learning Objective 4,5,6,7 For Scapular Region Flashcards
- Describe the location and contents of the neurovascular tracts of the quadrangular space
There are four boundaries: Teres Minor, Teres Major, Long head of the triceps braccii, shaft of the humerus
Nerve: Axillary Nerve
Artery: Posterior Circumflex Humeral Artery
- Describe the location and contents of the medial border of the scapula
Nerve: Dorsal Scapular Nerve
Artery: Dorsal Scapular Artery
Muscles with Dorsal Scapular Nerve Innervation: Levator Scapulae, Rhomboids,
- Describe the location and contents of the following neurovascular tracts: the scapular notch
Nerve: Suprascapular Nerve travels through the scapular notch
Artery: Suprascapular artery
Muscle: with suprascapular nerve innervation is the supraspinatous, infraspinatous,
- Describe the injury of shoulder separation
Involves the acromioclavicular joint which is comprised of the acromioclavicular ligament and the coracoclavicular which is comprised of the trapezoid and conoid ligaments. The clavicle will rise not fall, which enables the acromion to depress, which could damage the glenohumeral joint.
- Describe the injury and anatomical structures to shoulder dislocation.
That is the glenohumeral joint which involves the head of the humerus and the glenohumeral fossa. The ligaments involved in this joint are the glenohumeral ligaments, and the coracoacromial ligament.
This injury typically occurs when the arm is in abducted position.
The bottom of the joint is only supported by the joint capsule. The humerus dislocates down out of the glenohumeral space and migrates anteriorly. The longer it goes untreated it will press on the neurovascular bundle.
- Predict what neurovascular structures would be injured based on bone fracture located at the medial border of the scapula
The dorsal scapular nerve and artery, because they run along the medial border of the scapula.
