learning dp1 Flashcards
1
Q
neural plasticity
A
ability of the brains neural structure or function to be changed by experience throughout the lifespan
2
Q
long term potentiation
A
The more the connection is activated, the more the connection is strengthened. The more the connection is strengthened, the more relevant neural pathway is strengthened, increasing the efficient in transferring information along the pathway and decreasing the likelihood that what has been learned will be forgotten (thereby enhancing memory)
3
Q
long term depression
A
- post synaptic neuron becomes less responsive to neurotransmitter released by the presynaptic neuron and the effect is to weaken the synaptic connection
- long lasting decrease in strength of synaptic transmission
- increases the likelihood that what has been learnt will be forgotten
