Learning Flashcards
Classical Conditioning
- when the previous stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus
- Pavlov
- Taste Aversion (get the flu after you eat a food and from then on out u don’t eat that food)
- involuntary/passive
Where in the brain does classical conditioning occur?
-cerebellum
-amygdala: conditioned emotional response
Operant conditioning
learning through consequences
- Skinner
- voluntary/active
Reinforcement
event that strengthens the behavior it follows
Punishment
event that decreases the behavior it follows
Memory
ability to recall previous experiences
Types of Memory
short term, implicit, episodic, semantic
Short Term memory
working memory: memory that is held briefly in the mind that enables a
the particular task to be accomplished
Implicit Memory
memory that is expressed through performance and is assumed to
operate unconsciously
Episodic memory
memory for personally experienced past events
- medial temporal lobe
Semantic memory
memory for general knowledge of the world
- left lateral prefrontal cortex
4 areas for explicit memory
- Perirhinal cortex: visual object memory
- Paraphippocampal cortex: visuospatial memory
- Entorhinal cortex: integrative memory such as processing familiarity
- Hippocampus: spatial memory (location of objects)
LONG TERM POTENTIATION
One or more axons connected to a dendrite bombard it with a rapid series of stimuli.
3 stages of LTP
- Induction (Learning)
- Maintenance (Memory)
- Expression (Recall)
