Learning Flashcards
Conditioned stimulus (CS)
An originally irrelevant stimulus that, after association with an unconditioned stimulus, comes to trigger a conditioned response
Conditioned response (CR)
The learned response to a previously neutral, but now conditioned response
Unconditioned stimulus (UCS)
The stimulus that unconditionally/naturally and automatically triggers a response
Unconditioned response (UCR)
The unlearned, naturally occurring in response to the unconditioned stimuli
Stimulus
Anything in the environment to which one responds
Neutral stimulus
Any stimulus that produces no response prior to learning, but can be seen or heard
Learning
A relatively permanent behavior charge due to experience
Habituation
Learning not to respond to repeated presentation of a certain stimuli
Associative learning
Learning that certain events occur together, either in terms of two stimuli or a response and it’s consequences
Cognitive learning
Learning as a mental process, including memory, insight, and observation
Acquisition
When one links a neutral stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus so that the neutral stimulus comes to elicit a conditioned response
Classical conditioning
A type of learning in which one learns to link two or more stimuli to anticipate events
Generalization
The tendency, once a response has been conditioned, for stimuli similar to the conditioned stimulus to elicit similar responses
Extinction
The diminishing of a controlled response; when an unconditioned stimulus does not follow a conditioned stimulus
Spontaneous recovery
The reappearance, after a pause, of an extinguished conditioned response
