Learning 1 Flashcards
What is learning?
from experience of knowledge, skills or responses that result in a relatively permanent change in the state of the learner
What are unlearned behaviours and explain them
- Instinct: complex behaviour triggered by broad range of events
- Reflexes: relatively simple motor / neural responses
What is associative behaviour?
Making connections between stimuli or events that occur together in the environment
Define classical conditioning
A type of learning where two stimuli are repeatedly paired: a response which is at first elected to the second stimulus is eventually elicited to the first stimulus
Define unconditioned stimulus
A stimulus that naturally causes a response
Define unconditioned response
A natural response in response to the stimulus
Define neutral stimulus
A stimulus which initially produces no specific response other than focusing attention
Define conditioned stimulus
a stimulus that can eventually trigger a conditioned response
Define conditioned response
A learnt response to a previously neural stimulus
Define acquisition
the period when the stimulus comes to evoke the conditioned response
Define extinction
A decrease in the conditioned response when
Define generalization
when a conditioned response is evoked by a stimulus that is similar to the original conditioned stimulus
- Coffee cake leading to craving
Define discrimination
when a conditioned response is not evoked by a stimulus that is similar to the original stimulus
