Lean Production Flashcards
lean production
‘Lean production’ is producing goods and services efficiently with the minimum of waste resources while maintaining high quality.
Lean production - Less waste / increasing efficiency
Less waste:
Lower transportation costs
Holding too much stock
Movement of people
Waiting time in production
Overpopulation
Too much complexity
Defect products
Increasing efficiency (ratio of output to input):
Improve EE’s skills
Improve motivation
Better technology
Better management
4 different lean production methods
continuous improvement (kaizen)
just-in-time (JIT)
kanban
andon
Continuous improvement (Kaizen)
A philosophy whereby all employees contribute to improving the production process
Just-in-time (JIT)
‘Just-in-time (JIT) stock-control’ aims to avoid holding stocks by requiring supplies to arrive just as they are needed in production, and completed products are produced to order.
Kanban
‘Kanban’ is a system in which the supply of components is regulated through the use of an instruction card sent along the production line
Andon
‘Andon’ is a system to notify the management, maintenance, and other workers of a quality or process problem
(notify with a color system at the station, green = everything good, yellow = assistance needed, red = quality problem)
