Lean Production Flashcards
what is lean production
Practices that focus on cutting waste whilst maintaining or improving quality WASTE=COST
What is over production
Making more than what is needed, leading to excess inventories which may be hard to sell
What is waiting time
Equipment/people standing idle waiting for production process to be completed or rescources to arrive
What is transport
Moving rescources around unnecessarily
What is stock/raw materials
Often held as accountable buffer but should not be excessive
What is motion
A worker who appears busy but is not actually adding value to the business
What are defects
Output that does not reach the required quality standard
What techniques are included in lean production
1) just in time
2) Kaizen
3) time based management
4) cell production
What is just In time production used for
Used to minimise stock holdings at each stage of the production process to minimise costs
What is kaizen used for
Concentrates on small but frequent improvements in every aspect of the production process
What is time based management used for
Recognises the Importance of time and seeks to reduce the level of wasted time in the production process
What is cell production used for
Form of team working where production processes are split into cells each cell is responsible for a complete unit
