A

In 1925 , Greece w ordered to pay 45000 pounds compensation to Bulgaria after its invasion of Bulgarian territory. Q

Why did the league appear to work in the 1920s

A

Because it was just after the First World War, no one wanted another major conflict. Most countries were rebuilding so had no interest in foreign disputes. Most of the cases handled by the league were very minor disputes and therefore rulings were not challenged .

Q

Where did the league fail in 1920

A

Sometimes the league was ignored or undermined, a number of agreements were made outside the league suggesting countries had little confidence in it. Poland took control of Vilna which had been awarded to Lithuania in the TOV. Lithuania asked the league for help, the league asked Poland to withdraw troops and hold a plebiscite , Poland refused. The league passed the issue to the conference of ambassadors. They awarded Vilna to Poland

A

It caused the Manchurian incident. Reduced the inclination of league members to impose economic sanctions as they couldn’t afford it. Brought extremists to power such as hitler in Germany . Put pressure on countries to find new resources and materials causing them to invade other countries for it.
