Arms Race - Why did the arms race lead to war?

A

Snowball Effect - as one country increased its army the other felt pressure to do the same.

Every time a country increased its army they were more confident about success in war and more likely to go to war.

The Moroccan Crisis 1911 (Agadir) - What happened in the second Moroccan Crisis?

A

France sent an army to occupy Fez in Morocco. Kaiser Wilhelm sent the gunship ‘Panther’ to Agadir to try and break France and Britains alliance but Britain and France forced him to back down when Britain readied a fleet for war.

The Bosnian Crisis 1908 - what happened in the Bosnian Crisis?

A

Austria occupied Bosnia in the Balkans. This annoyed Serbia, which wanted to take over the area. Russia wanted to help Serbia, but had to back down as its army was big enough to fight Austria and Germany. This lead Russia to draw closer to Britain and France.
