Transformational leadership
Has a relationship w/ the followers based on an exchange for some resource valued by the follower.
Transactional leadership
Emotional relationship b/t the leader and the group; strong feelings of commitment.
Charismatic leadership
Flexible in task and relationship behaviors, considers staff members abilities, knows the nature of the environment where the task takes place.
Situational leadership
Does not trust themselves or others to make decisions instead relies on the organizations rules, policies and procedures to direct the groups work.
Bureaucratic leadership
Recognizes the groups need for autonomy and self-regulation and takes a hands off approach.
Laissez-faire leadership
Encourages group decision making; you are a facilitator guiding the group towards group goals.
Democratic leadership
Makes decisions for the group based on the belief that individuals are externally motivated and incapable of independent decision making.
Autocratic leadership
Coordinating and integrating health care services for individuals and groups.
Case management
Referred to as total care, 1 nurse is assigned to a group of pts during a shift; consistent care, assessments, making nursing plans, forming nursing diagnoses, implementing care and evaluating effectiveness of care is all included
Case method
Focuses on jobs to be completed, is based on production and efficiency ; gives authority and responsibility to person assigning work. Ex: head nurse
Functional method
The delivery of individualized nursing care to a group of pts by a team led by a pro-nurse; includes an RN, LPN, UAP, etc.
Team nursing
Cost control, customer satisfaction, health promotion and preventative services.
Managed care
Active involvement of the pts and families in their care and decision making.
Pt. focused care
Refers to the expected outcomes and care strategies developed through collaboration of the healthcare team.
