Trait theory, Behavioral theory, Contingency theory, Contemporary theory.
What is behavioral theory?
Focus on characteristics leaders possess: such as what leaders do, how they behave is the focus of behavioral traits
Example: Autocratic, Democratic, Permissive/Laissez faire, and Bureaucratic leadership
Autocratic/Bureaucratic use external motivators to cause subordinate change in behavior (such as punishment, power, policies, rules).
Democratic/Laissez faire believe behave change is internally inspired ( such as goal setting, collaboration, hands off able to make own decisions)
Who is Rensis Likert?
Rensis Likert devised for model system known a System 4 Managment ( his work showed greater employee involvement translate to greater commitment to the organization and its objectives).
System 4: relationship btw leadership and outcome; described leadership according to degree of involvement in decision making managers invite from their subordinates
Who is Paul Hersey/ Ken Blanchard?
They took Fiedler’s model of leadership factor a step further adding followers’ willingness and readiness
Recommend leaders consider: job and psychological maturity
Job maturity: refers to an employee’s skill and technical knowledge relative to the job
Psychological maturity: refers to an employee’s self confidence and self respect
