acknowledges each individual and makes them feel welcome and invited
it warms the group up and prepares them and relaxes them
the appropriate mood can be created by a warm up activity, a good environment, and a warm smile
also…. share the purpose and goal of the group
(time frame, what to be expected)
activity… consider 5 things..
timing- short and simple
therapeutic goals- desired outcome
physical and mental abilities of leaders
knowledge of skill of leaders
adaptation of activity
… should be 1/3 of total activity time.. so a 1 hour group should be 15-20
should reach a therapeutic goal
activity of interest
physical, emotional, mental challenges, assessed
leaders should be familiar with activity and be able to adapt it

leader reviews the groups response and sums it up— to provide discussion, leads to questions, looks for areas of disagreement or conflict
