Describe Informal Leadership.

A

Stems from personal initiative, special knowledge, unique experiences/technical expertise specific to individual or team. Can arise inside and outside of organizations. They include the NCO support channel. Leaders interact with both formal and informal teams including traditional COC and technical channels combining commanders and staff officers.

Describe the “Be, Know and Do”.

A

Begins with that a leader must BE, the values and attributes that shape a leader’s character. The skills you KNOW how to do, everything from technical side of your job to the people skills as a leader. Being able to DO what you must in order to be a great leader, when character and knowledge aren’t enough.

Describe why self-awareness is critical to leadership

A

Being able to see one’s self through the eyes of others and understanding its influence on followers. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses; do/do not know, skilled/not skilled in, in their span of control. Must be self-aware if you are going to accurately assess your own experience and competence in order to gain the trust of others.
