LE Surface Anatomy Flashcards
Sartorius
place heel on opposite knee, follow down from ASIS
Femoral Triangle
with heel on opposite knee, push up. Boundaries: inguinal ligament, adductor longus, sartorius
Inguinal Ligament
between ASIS and pubic tubercle
Rectus Femoris
leaned back sitting, resist knee extension
Greater Trochanter
level of wrist when supine or standing; passively IR/ER
Trochanteric Bursa
(not palpable) located over greater trochanter
Gluteus Medius
come up and back from greater trochanter; abduct and palpate in gluteal depression
Gluteal Depression
formed by gluteus medius when it contracts
Ischial Tuberosity
flex hip and palpate in middle of buttock
Sciatic Nerve
half way between greater trochanter and ischial tuberosity
PSIS
dimples above buttocks at S2
Gluteal Fold
base of buttock where buttock meets posterior thigh
Gluteus maximus
prone, extend hip with knee flexion
Tensor Fascia Lata
stand on one leg and abduct/internally rotate. Palpate posterior to ASIS and below iliac crest
Iliotibial band
extend knee and come from front above knee to palpate
Patella
knee cap
Infrapatellar Bursae
(not palpable) inferior to patella superior to infrapatellar tendon
Prepatellar Bursae
(not palpable) anterior/superficial to patella
Tibial Tuberosity
insertion of infrapatellar tendon
Trochlear Groove
bend knee, palpate groove above patella between condylar ridges
Vastus Medialis
resist knee extension, palpate along tendon above superior/medial pole of patella
Vastus Lateralis
resist knee extension, palpate along tendon above lateral/superior pole of patella
Medial Femoral Condyle
knee flexed at 90 degrees; palpate medially back from patella
Medial Femoral Epicondyle
widest area superior to medial femoral condyle (flares out)
Adductor Tubercle
superior to medial epicondyle; finger drops in (insertion of adductor magnus)
Adductor Magnus
palpate adductor tubercle
Medial Tibial Plateau
palpate medial side of infrapatellar tendon and move superiorly/inferiorly to feel the edge
Pes Anserine Bursa
(not palpable) medial to tibial tuberosity, below tibial plateau
Lateral Femoral Condyle
push back laterally from patella
Lateral Femoral Epicondyle
widest area superior to lateral condyle (flares out)
Lateral Tibial Plateau
palpate lateral side of infrapatellar tendon and move superiorly/inferiorly to feel the edge
Head of the Fibula
inferior to lateraly epicondyle at level of tibial tuberosity
Common Fibular Nerve
wraps around neck of fibula
