Le Chats Princi Flashcards
What is le chats principle
“If an external stress is applied to a system at equilibrium, the system adjusts itself in such a way that the stress is partially offset.”
“If a change is imposed on a system at equilibrium, the position of the equilibrium shifts in direction to counteract the change.”
What happens to reaction quotient (Q) if reactant or product are removed/added to a reaction at equilibrium
Q no longer equal the equilibrium constant
If volume is decreased what does reaction do
What if increased
The pressure increases so it goes to side with fewer moles gas
Pressure decreases so it goes to side with greater moles gas
If temp increases where does equilibrium shift
what if decreases
IDK
What do catalysts do
Not consumed or produced during rxn
Do not affect enthalpy change of rxn
Do Affect rate of rxn, help reach equilibrium faster but does not change the position of equilibrium
When can we use small x approx
How do you check if the approx is valid
When k is very small (<10^-3)
X value you calculate/the initial concentration
