LE Amputation Flashcards
What is a Lisfranc’s amputation?
Amputation through tarsometatarsal junction
What ABI indicates mild PAD?
0.7-0.9
What is considered long, standard and short AKA?
Long = >60% residual limb Standard = 35-60% residual limb Short = <35% residual limb
MCC of amputation ages 15-50
Trauma
What is considered a long, standard and short BKA?
Long = >50% residual limb Standard = 20-50% residual limb Short = <20%
Gold standard imaging test for PAD
Intraarterial contrast angiography
MCC of amputation in ages 0-5
Congenital deformity
What’s the shortest BKA you can have with residual limb still being functional?
1cm below tibial tuberosity
What is a syme’s amputation?
Ankle disarticulation
Hip disarticulation vs hemipelvectomy vs hemicorpectomy
Hip disarticulation = pelvis remains in tact
Hemipelvectomy = resection of lower half of pelvis
Hemicorpectomy = amputation of both lower limbs and pelvis
Myodesis vs myoplasty
Myodesis is when muscle is sutured to bone.
Myoplasty is when muscles are sutured to each other
What is considered too high of an ABI and may be considered abnormal?
> 1.3. May indicates calcified noncompressible vessels
What are 2 unsatisfactory levels of amputation for a BKA?
- Amputation through distal 2/5 of tibia (60% of residual limb) - below the gastroc-soleus
- Very short BKA - above the tibial tuberosity
What ABI indicates severe PAD
<0.4
What ABI indicates moderate PAD?
0.4-0.7
