Layers of the testis Flashcards
What are the layers of the abdomen?
From outside to inside: Skin->Camper’s fascia (fatty)->Scarpa’s fascia (fibrous)->external oblique->internal oblique->transversalis->transversalis fascia->extra- (or pre-)peritoneal fat->peritoneum
What other major event initiates during the same week that the testes pass through the inguinal canal?
Surfactant begins to form.
Which of the abdomen layers descend to form the layers of the testes?
External oblique->External spermatic fascia
Internal oblique->Cremasteric muscle and fascia
Transversalis fascia->internal spermatic fascia
Which layers do not descend?
TRANSVERSUS ABDOMINIS MUSCLE
What is the guide structure for the testes to descend?
The Gubernaculum
What is the Processus Vaginalis?
It is the outpouching of parietal peritoneum that descends right before the testis through the gubernaculum. It forms the tunica vaginalis (down) and closes (up).
What happens if the upper portion of the processus vaginalis remains patent?
CONGENITAL INDIRECT inguinal hernia (indirect means lateral to the inferior epigastric vessels)
