What does the forest floor have
It has a small amount of sunlight. Only around 2% reaches the dark, humid forest floor. It only has vines and young trees but is ideal for animals like beetles, frogs and lizards
What does the shrub layer have
Lots of plants with important medicinal properties
What does the undercanopy have
Sheltered conditions but the dark, humid conditions are ideal for insects, birds and jaguars. Trees store huge reserves of carbon
What does the canopy have?
Trees that aren’t as tall as the emergent trees but they are packed very tightly together and shade the forest floor from sunlight. Around 70-90% of rainforest life is found here
What does the emergent layer have
This layer is at treetop height and it is subject to extreme weather conditions and is home to many animals such as butterflies and small monkeys. They are the tallest trees
