Laws of Electricity Flashcards
Approach Distance
The minimum distance a worker or conductive object must maintain from an energized power line, depending on the voltage of the line. This distance is given in a table, issued by OSHA.
Circuit
A collection of electrical components, connected in a way that electrical current flows.
Conductor
A material that will conduct electrical energy.
Conventional Current Flow
The flow of current from positive to negative.
Directly
In describing mathematical relationships, directly means changing in the same direction.
Electron Flow Theory
The flow of current from negative to positive.
Inversely
In describing mathematical relationships, inversely means changing in the opposite direction.
Junction
In electrical circuits, a place where three or more circuit elements join.
Law
In electrical theory, a relationship that has been proven by experimentation to always be true.
Load
In an electrical circuit, a component that restricts current flow and uses electrical energy.
Parallel Circuit
An electrical circuit with multiple current paths.
Proportional
In describing mathematical relationships, proportional means changing by the same factor.
Series Circuit
An electrical circuit with only one path for current flow.
Voltage Source
In an electrical circuit, the origin of electrical force, necessary to allow current to flow.
