A
The law commission considers areas of law which are in need of reform. Researches the area of law and produces a consultation paper which explains the law and examines options to reform.

Codification
A
Codification is the process of bringing together a legal act (or several) and all its amendments into a single new act and puts it into codes, to make it easier to understand.

Consolidation
A
Consolidation involves bringing together existing acts on the same subject in one piece of legislation, without changing the law in any way.

Repeal
A
The removal of laws that have no further use.

Law commission- Advantages
A
- Law is researched by legal experts.
- There is consultation before drawing up proposals.
- Whole areas of law are considered.

Law Commission- Disadvantages
A
- Some reforms may never be implemented.
- Parliament may make changes to the proposed reforms without the benefit of legal expertise.
