Q

how does atomic mass differ from atomic number?

A

the atomic mass is the sum of the protons and neutrons in an atom whereas the atomic number is the number of protons in the atom. because the number of protons present in an atom is equal to the number of electrons, the atom number is also equal to the number of electrons in an atom.

Q

why was the periodic table such a great achievement in the science field?

A

because it organized all of the known elements based on a variety of known characteristics, as well as allowed people to predict the various characteristics of unknown elements without the element actually being discovered
