Intergovernmental
A
Intergovernmental institutions make decisions by agreement between Member States.

Supranational
A
Supranational institutions make decisions at a level above Member States. These decisions override national rules of member states

The commission
A
- must be completely independent in the performance of their duties and neither
take nor seek instructions from any government or any other body. - the sole proposer of (nearly) all secondary legislation.

Parliament
A
- president of Commission needs to be approved by the EP
- president-elect and Member States then nominate all the Commissioners who need to be approved as a body by the EP.
- citizens may petition the European Parliament on matters concerning the EU’s fields of activity and which concern them directly.

Court of justice
A
- Advocates General - deliver non-binding opinions to assist the judges.
- CJEU is an EU institution and hears actions concerning EU law only.
