Law 10 - Determining the Outcome of a Match Flashcards
What does the referee toss a coin for after the match if the tie needs to be decided by penalties?
- To decide ends
2. To decide the order of kicks
At the end of the match, who is eligible to take kicks from the penalty mark?
Only players who are on the field of play (or temporarily off the field).
Exception is a substitute for a goalkeeper who cannot continue.
Who is responsible for selecting the order that kicks are taken?
Each respective team.
What happens if one team has a greater number of players than the other at the end of the match, before or during the kicks?
The team with the greater number of players must reduce its numbers to the same number as its opponents and the referee must be informed of the name and number of each player excluded.
When is a penalty kick complete?
When the ball stops moving, goes out of play or the referee stops play for any offence. The kicker may not play the ball a second time.
If a goalkeeper commits an offence which results in the kick being retaken, what must happen?
The goalkeeper must be cautioned.
If the kicker is penalised for an offence committed after the referee has signalled for it to be taken, what must happen?
The kick is recorded as missed and the kicker is cautioned.
What happens if both the goalkeeper and the kicker commit an offence at the same time?
Depends if the penalty is scored or not:
Missed/saved - kick is retaken and both players are cautioned.
Goal - goal is disallowed, the kick is recorded as missed and the kicker is cautioned.
If a goalkeeper is unable to continue before or during penalty kicks, what must occur?
The keeper may be replaced by a player excluded from the kicks, or by a named substitute, in order to equalise the number of players (if the team has not used all of their permitted substitutes).
