A gold rush in Yukon caused alotta people to travel there. Whoever owned the ports got to tax all the people going there and make alotta money.

*The land they fought over was between B.C. and the Pacific Ocean called the Panhandle. (that might be just nice to know)

A

Britain and Germany were in an arms race over having the best Navy. And with the brand new dreadnoughts, whoever had more of them won. So they needed funds to make them.

A

It had no dreadnaughts, so it was completely useless. It got called a “Tin-pot navy.”

A

Canada didn’t trade with Britain anymore because of their bitter history (what they did in the Alaska boundary dispute). So Laurier wanted free trade with USA to improve Canada’s economy.

A

The vote went 4-2, Britain choosing to vote on the Americans side. Canada felt betrayed and lost the panhandle.
