- Began in 1594
- Led by Earl of Tyrone, against the English rule
- Battle of Yellow Ford in 1598 saw the defeat of the English
- Essex was sent with 15,000 but was incompetent, only 4000 men to battle
- When Charles Blunt (Mountjoy) is sent he effectively defeats the rebels causing them to surrender in 1603
