Q

Suetonius

A

Quotes spread across the themes, but he was writing under Hadrian (121 AD), long after Augustus’ death.

He could write more candidly about his rule, and had access to public documents, letters, and biographies to inform his writing. He liked hearsay and scandals, but wouldn’t have been allowed to invent false information.
