Latent Heat Flashcards
What happens to the temperature of a substance during phase change?
When a substance is heated, its temperature increases until a phase change begins. During the phase change, added heat is used to break bonds rather than raising temperature. After the change is complete, the temperature continues to rise.
What is latent heat?
Latent heat is the energy required to change the state of a substance without changing its temperature.
Q=ml
Q=ml(v)
What does Q=ml mean?
The specific heat of latent fusion (Lf)of a substance is the quantity of heat energy required to convert one kilogram of the substance from solid to liquid state without change in temperature
What does Q=ml(v) mean?
The specific heat of latent vaporisation (Lv)of a substance is the quantity of heat energy required to convert one kilogram of the substance from liquid to gas state without change in temperature
