Albany Plan of Union

A

A plan to place the colonies under a more centralized government. It was suggested by Benjamin Franklin because he wanted higher colonial deffence.

The French and Indian War (1754-1763)

A

Began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The war provided Great Britain enormous territorial gains in North America but disputes over frontier policy and paying the war’s expenses led to colonial discontent, and ultimately to the American Revolution

The Boston Massacre

A

Caused by the occupation of Boston by Redcoats in 1768. Redcoats were sent to Boston to quell riots in the wake of the Townsend Duties and to protect customs officials.

A

First and Second Continental Congress

A

The First Continental Congress was a compact among the colonies to boycott British goods beginning on December 1, 1774, unless parliament should rescind the Intolerable Acts. The second Congress established a Continental Army and elected George Washington as Commander-in-Chief.
