what is the significance of Jamestown 1607?
The first successful English colony in North America. The royal charter was granted by King James I.
What was the House of Burgesses?
It was the first democratically-elected legislative body of the English colonies in 1619.
What was the Mayflower Compact?
It was the agreement between the settlers of the Plymouth Colony. The first establishment of self-government in the new world.
Who were the Puritans?
They were memebrs of a religious movement that arose within the Church of England in the late 16th century. They believed that people were selected for salvation.
What was the Massachusetts bay colony?
The colony was settled in 1630 settled by Puritans who were seeking refuge from religious prosecution in Europe. The colony was self-governed by John Winthrop.
What was the Pequot War?
The Pequot War was fought by the Pequot Indians against the English settlers of the Massachusetts Bay colony and their Allies. The war was over trade.
What was the King Philips War
A conflict between in 1675 between native americans on New England and the New England colonists and their indengeous allies.
What was Bacon’s Rebellion
An armed rebellion held by Virginia settlers that took place in 1676. It was led by Bacon against Colonial Governor Berkley after he refused to remove native Americans from Virginia
What was the Glorious Revolution in England?
It was caused by religious and political conflicts because King James II was Catholic and his actions reflected that.
What were the Salem Witchcraft trials?
A series of hearings and prosecutions where women were targeted for being witches in 1692
What was the Great Awakening?
A period of religious revival of evangelical Protestant ministers. There was an increase is church attendance. It altered the religious climate of the American colonies.
