SDR
Small Decent Rule of Thumb
FPA = ALT to lose in 100s of ft (max 10°)
Turns
Check
Hard - MIL, G to Maintain
Break - 5+ G, Max 90°, +FPA acceptable/preferred
50% Rule
Max Safe FPA for a 90° Turning Roll-in is 50% of the Pre-Roll in Alt (AGL) in 100s of ft.
. Not to Exceed 25° of Dive Angle.
. If more than 90° Turn Required - Lvl Turn Until Less than 90° remaining.
. Roll out Once 90° of Turn or FPA Reached.
10° Rule
Start Roll-Out AT or BEFORE a Dive Angle Equal to Highest Observed Climb Angle Minus 10° Then Intercept DRR.
. G over Top > G at Start
. If Over Shoot
- Reset to Climb Angle - 10°
- Accept (Max 5°), Pick Up Steeper DRR Gate
. ≥ 20° Climb
Ridge-Line Crossing
. 1nm From Ridge-Line - Pull to Put VV 3/5° Above Ridge-Line
. Hold but Evaluate / Adjust - Min 300’ AGL (500) Pass
. 135° over bank / Wings Lvl Bunt / 90° nose slice - to Max 10° Nose Down
KIO (Knock it Off)
Wings Lvl, 4g Climb to Pre-Briefed Alt (3-5k AGL)
Abort
Wings Lvl, Max Performance climb to Positive, Terrain Clearing, FPA (3k AGL min)
Terminate
. Roll Wings Lvl
. Lvl off at Present or Briefed Altitude
Comfort Level (CL)
Lowest Alt which aircrew can accommodate task loading and maintain safe terrain clearance. Never a hard Alt.
Climb to Cope
. Aircrew will climb when SA or MSN performance is degraded.
. Executed as an adjustment to Comfort Level,
. Training may resume once all aircrew are confident that continued safe operations are assured.
Knock it Off (Definition)
. Execute KIO Climb.
. Used to end a phase of LAT training and climb away from the Low Alt environment
. Discontinue training until the cause of the KIO has been addressed and remedied.
