LASIK and PRK Complications and Outcomes (F) Flashcards
What are the preoperative medications prior to LASIK or PRK?
- fluoroquinolone
- tetracaine
- betadine
What is the condition following LASIK or PRK that has symptoms of photophobia with an apparent absence of inflammation? 1. How long after surgery does this occur? 2
- Transient Light Sensitivity Syndrome (TLSS)
2. a few weeks after surgery with femtosecond laser
What is a common post-operative with excimer finding that is a mismatch between the posterior flap curvature and new stromal bed?
striae
What situations lead to a higher amount of flap displacements?
- hyperopes
2. microkeratome instead of femto
What is the condition follow LASIK in which inflammatory cells are found in the stromal interface? 1. How long after surgery does this occur? 2
- diffuse lamellar keratitis (DLK)
2. 2 to 6 days postop
What are the potential causes of DLK?
- sterilization problems
- lid disease and staph
- metallic particles
- early femto laser use
What is the treatment for DLK?
- if stage 1 or 2: pred forte q1hr
- if stage 3: lift flap, irrigate interface, culture, then pred q1hr
- if stage 4: flap lifting found to inc stromal loss (so no longer done). just pred q1hr
Is there definitive evidence that LASIK can cause RD?
no
