What is Flashback?
When a surface reflects the laser back on itself. All reflective surfaces should be cut face down with a non reflective side facing the laser.
What engraves faster landscape or portrait?
Landscape.
What cuts faster, segments or continuous lines?
Continuous lines.
What problems occur in lasers with too short focal length?
Goo, fumes and material from the cut can damage machine parts.
What problems occur when the focal length is too long?
Blurry burns and reduced accuracy.
Is it safe to laser cut wood?
Yes, as long as it has no paint or finish. Can be up to 1/4inch thick.
Is it safe to laser cut acrylic?
Yes, must have backing in place to differentiate it from other materials.
Is it safe to laser cut glass?
Can be engraved but not cut.
Is it safe to laser cut marble?
Can be engraved but not cut.
Is it safe to laser cut rubber?
Only when specifically sold to be laser cut / engraved. Must be indicated on packaging.
Is it safe to laser cut leather?
Natural leather only can be engraved, but creates a strong odor. Synthetic leather may contain chemicals that are not safer for the laser.
Is it safe to cut Cardboard
Good for testing designs.
Is it safe to cut polycarbonate in the laser cutter?
No, it does not cut or engrave well, cuts are yellow and burned. Looks like acrylic but has a blue/purple tint when viewed from the edge.
Is it safe to cut PVC on the laser cutter?
No, releases chlorine gas when burned that can damage the laser and is dangerous for humans.
Is Vinyl safe to cut on a laser cutter?
No. Often contains PVC which releases chlorine gas.
