Laryngeal Anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
Intrinsic laryngeal muscles
A
thyroarytenoid & cricothyroid
2
Q
Thyroarytenoid
A
- makes up body of VFs, contraction shortens
- RLN innervation
3
Q
Cricothyroid
A
- contraction rocks cricoid back, raises pitch (stretches VFs)
- THE ONLY SLN innervated laryngeal muscle
4
Q
Vocal fold ADDuctors
A
lateral cricoarytenoids (LCA) & transverse & oblique interarytenoids (IAs)
Both innervated by RLN
5
Q
Vocal fold ABductors
A
posterior cricoarytenoid muscles (PCA)
6
Q
Extrinsic laryngeal muscles- Suprahyoids
A
Suprahyoids help with hyoid elevation, increasing pitch, and widening the pharynx and PES during swallowing.
- includes mylohyoid, stylohyoid, geniohyoid, and digastric muscles
7
Q
Extrinsic laryngeal muscles- Infrahyoids
A
Infrahyoids help with hyolaryngeal depression
- Includes sternohyoid, thyrohyoid, omohyoid, sternothyroid
