Large Intestin Flashcards
For location of points think.. finger (LI1), knuckle (LI2), knuckle (LI3), metacarp (LI4), snuff box (LI5), 3 cun (LI6), 2 cun (LI7), 3 cun (LI8), (LI9), (LI10) points. Elbow crease (LI11).
Metal/Well point
clears pathogenic heat, benefits eyes and throat, calms mind, expels wind, restores consciousness, releases exterior
LI 1 (Shangyang)
Location - radial side of index finger, 0.1 cun posterior to corner of nailbed
Water/Spring point
clears heat, expels wind-heat, opens throat, relieves pain
LI 2 (Erjian)
Location - radial side index finger, distal to MC joint, junction of red and white skin (located with finger slightly flexed)
Wood/Stream point
expels exterior wind, clears heat, benefits eyes/throat, regulates intestines, relieves pain
LI 3 (Sanjian
Location - radial side index finger, depression proximal to head of 2nd MC bone (when loose fist is made)
What’s so special about LI 4?
Location - radial side, dorsum of the hand, between 1 and 2 MC bones, app. in the middle of 2nd MC bone
Source point Command point - face and mouth Entry point (one of 4)
Which points clear heat?
LI 2, LI 6, LI 7, LI 8, LI 11, LI 15, LI 20
Pathogenic heat - LI 1, LI 5, LI 7, LI 8
Window to the sky point
Most of these points are located on the neck, balances excess yin in the lower body and excess yang in upper body, designed to treat psychological disorders especially depression
LI 18 (futu)
location - lateral side of neck, level with tip of laryngeal prominence, between sternal and clavicular heads of sternocleidomastoid muscle
Exit point
expels exterior wind, opens nose, removes obstructions, clears heat
LI 20 (Yingxiang)
location - nasolabial groove, level of midpoint of lateral border of ala nasi
Fire/River point
releases exterior, expels wind, benefits eyes/ear/nose/throat, relieves pain, clams mind, clears pathogenic heat
LI 5 (Yangxi)
location - radial side wrist, snuff box, between extensor pollicis longus and brevis tendons when thumb is extended
Luo-Connecting point
Linked to coupled meridian’s source point internally, usually reduces excess in Yang channels, more superficial points, can be used to teat conditions with either the organ or paired organ (Lu 7)
LI 6 (Pianti)
Location - 3 cun proximal to Li5 on the joining Li5 and Li11 with elbow flexed and the palm of the hand on the epigastrium
Xi-Cleft Point (Accumulation point)
Located between fingers and elbow or toes and knees (except St 34), location is usually over a crevice or cleft in the bone next to the channel
LI 7 (Wenliu)
Location - 5 cun proximal to Li 5 on the line joining Li 5 and Li 11.
Which point harmonizes LI and relieves pain?
LI 9 (Shanglian)
Location - on line joining LI 5 and LI 11, 4 cun distal to LI 11
Earth/Sea Point
clears heat, cools blood, resolves dampness, subdues liver yang, resolves water-dampness
LI 11 (Quchi)
also GHOST Point
Location - Midway between Lu5 and lateral epicondyle of the humerus on elbow depression (when arm is flexed)
Contraindicated for Apex of the Lung (pneumothorax risk) and suprascapular artery and vein.
Hint - located in the depression between acromial extremity of the clavicle and the scapular spine.
LI 16 (Jugu)
descents lung qi, relieves coughing, dissipates masses, opens in chest, frees joints, relieves pain, benefits shoulder
Contraindicated - external jugular vein and carotid artery (medially)
Hint - Benefits the throat and voice, dissipates masses
LI 17 (Tianding)
Location - Lateral side of neck, posterior border of sternocleidomastoid muscle, 1 cun inferior to LI 18.
Expels wind, opens the nose, benefits the teeth
Hint - 0.5 cun lateral to GV 26
LI 19
Location - Just below lateral margin of the nostril.
