Laptop Displays Flashcards
Understand Displays
What are the most common display technologies?
LCD. Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED).
What are the advantages of LCD for laptops?
Lightweight.
Relatively Low Power.
Relatively Inexpensive.
What are the disadvantages of LCDs?
Bad with color representation.
Difficult to get true black.
Requires Backlight.
What are the two backlight technologies?
Fluorescent Lighting. LED (Light Emitting Diode) Lighting.
Why are backlights important?
They shine through the screen to light up the LCD. If they break so does the screen.
What are the advantages of OLED?
They are very thin.
Very light.
Does not require backlight.
Good color representation.
Disadvantages of OLED?
Organic Materials degrade over time.
Decayed images still display.
More costly.
More power intensive.
How many antennas are there?
Multiple.
Give three examples of antenna technologies?
Wifi main.
Auxillary.
Bluetooth
Where do they connect to and why?
The screen as it is the highest component. It helps them get the best signal possible.
What standard card can help connect these technologies?
PCI 802.11 Interface Card.
Where are video and audio capture usually on a laptop?
The top of the laptop.
How do LED backlights function?
Typically placed around the edge, or as a matrix over the screen.
Is voltage conversion necessary for the LEDs?
No. The adapter does that already.
What is the full term for Fluorescent Lamps?
CCFL. Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps.
