Discourse
Verbal/Written communication or debate (e.g. aggressive voices on social media).
Pragmatics
A branch of linguistics dealing with language in use and the contexts in which it is used, including such matters as deixis (dependent on the context in which it is used), the taking turns in conversation, text organisation, presupposition, and implication.
Grammar
System/Structure of a language (e.g. noun, verb).
Syntax
The arrangement of words/phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language (e.g. She loves him).
Morphology
Study of the forms of things/words (walk-ed).
Lexis
The total stock of words in a language.
Semantics
The branch of linguistics/logic concerned with meaning. The two main areas are logical semantics, concerned with matters such a sense, reference, presupposition and implication, and lexical semantics, concerned with the analysis of word meanings and relations between them.
Phonology
The branch of linguistics that deals with systems of sounds (including or excluding phonetics), within a language or between different languages.
