The study of all the “variations linked to the social and geographical roots” of language users.
i.e. dialect, national language, jargon, language blends.
Geolinguistics
Focuses on the study of the “relationship between language and society or culture or behaviour.”
Not a single discipline but a set of propositions and studies.
i.e. sociology of language, ethnolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, etc.
Sociolinguistics
Focuses on the “psychological processes of language production and language comprehension.”
e.g. language and behaviourism, stimulus-response schema etc.
Psycholinguistics
Technique intended to allow its possessor to achieve, within a discursive situation, the desired goal.
It has a pragmatic character; to convince the interlocutor to the rightness of a cause.
Rhetoric and Stylistics
Art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing especially the exploitation of figures of speech and other compositional techniques
Rhetoric
Study of distinctive styles found in particular literary genres and in the works of individual writers.
Stylistics
Designates any internal theory of literature.
Proposes to elaborate categories that allow us to grasp simultaneously the unity and the variety of literary works.
Poetics
A study that considers language as an already known object and seeks out its relationships with other objects that are supposed, to be distinct from language.
