Preparing to Write Phase
Set clear communicative goals by considering the text and its internal and external features.
Writing the Draft Phase
Write and focus on the meaning of the message
Editing Phase
Focus on the formulation of their text by correcting errors of spelling, capitalization, punctuation, sentence structure and language usage.
Revising Phase
- Read what they have written to clarify the meaning of their text
- Focus on idears and organisation
Literacy
Ability to Read and Write
Text
Any form of communication –spoken, written and visual–involving the English language
(e.g. radio broadcasts, petitions, movie trailers)
Authentic Texts
Materials that reflect natural speech or writing as used by native speakers of English.
Teacher-made or adapted materials may qualify as authentic if they resemble texts students will encounter in the real world.

Popular Texts
Reflect Popular Culture and Everyday Life
e.g. cartoons, comic strips, e-mails, letters, movies, posters, songs, teen magazines
Literary Texts
Include young adult literature and Abridged Novels
(e.g. adventure books, biographies, journals and diaries, legends, mysteries, poems, science fiction, short stories, plays)
Information-Based Texts
Non-Fiction Texts
(e.g. advertisements, application forms, atlases, dictionaries, documentaries, encyclopedias, instructions, text books, news broadcasts, newspapers, reports, résumés, surveys)
Deconstruct Texts
COMPARING TEXT AND DECONSTRUCTING,
- They recognize patterns in the texts by focusing on specific aspects:
- internal features (topic/information, language, text components), and
- external features (purpose, audience, culture).
- They make a list of criteria that summarizes the characteristics of an effective text.
