What is masculinity and femininity?
Refers to the degree to which masculine and feminine traits are valued and revealed.
What is are some traits of a masculine culture?
Assertiveness, ambition, different sex roles and achievement, and acquiring money.
What are some of the traits of a feminine culture?
Feminine societies stress caring and nurturing behaviours.
What does uncertainty avoidance refer to?
Uncertainty avoidance defines a societies tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity.
What does Individualism and Collectivism measure?
The degree to which individuals are integrated into groups.
What defines a high context (HC) society?
In high context cultures there are many contextual elements that help people to understand the rules. As a result much is taken for granted.
Some high context cultures include native Americans, Latin Americans, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and the Middle East.
What is low context?
In low context cultures very little is taken for granted. Whilst this means that more explanation is needed, it also means there is less chance of misunderstanding.
Low context cultures include North America, Western Europe.
What is power distance?
Power distance is the extent to which the less powerful members of society accept and expect that power is distributed unequally.
