Language Flashcards
What are the two main arteries that supply blood to the brain
Internal carotid artery (anterior
Vertebral artery (2 on each side that eventually reach the brain)
What are the three primary branches of the internal carotid artery
anterior cerebral artery
medial cerebral artery
posterior cerebral artery
What is a thrombosis stroke
build-up of plaque being so much that it eventually pinches off blood flow traveling through the artery
What is embolism stroke
buildup of plaque, but it doesn’t fully close off the artery initially, instead, a piece of the build-up breaks off and continues to travel along the arteries until it reaches an artery that is narrow enough where it blocks it and stops the bloodflow
What is a hemorrhagic stroke
due to a breakage of bleed within the brain (not a blockage)
what is a arteriovenous malformation
happens at the location of the exchange of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood
tangling up of interactive spaces which can build up pressure and cause a rupture (bleed, not a blockage)
what is paraphasia
word substitutions/errors
semantic (dog for cat) or phonemic (flipper for slipper)
what is neologism
inventing a word
what is agrammatism
lack of functional words or telegraphic speech (assuming the person knows what you mean)
what is anomia
difficulties with “word-finding” and naming things
What is fluency
the ability to put language together in an effortless and fluid manner
what is comprehension
the ability to understand language
what is repetition
the ability to repeat after me
