Landing Gear Flashcards
What does the landing gear consist of?
Two main landing gear and a single nose gear
How many wheels are there on each main truck?
Each main gear has 6 wheels in tandem pairs
Which elements are steerable?
Nose gear and aft axle of each main gear
Which hydraulic system powers the landing gear?
Hydraulic power for retraction, extension and steering is provided by the centre hydraulic system
What releases the lever lock?
The lever lock can be manually overridden or, when in flight, the lever lock is automatically released through air/ground sensing
What action is required to raise the gear if the lever is locked?
Pushing and holding the landing gear lever lock override switch whilst also lifting the gear lever
After retraction how is the gear held up?
By uplocks
Is the system still pressurised?
No, the system automatically depressurises after the gear is retracted and all doors close
What is the normal sequence of EICAS gear positon indications during a retraction?
Green DOWN changes to white cross-hatch during transit, when gear is up, indication changes to UP for 10 seconds and then blanks
During alternate gear extension what removes the uplocks?
A separate dedicated DC powered hydraulic pump using Centre system fluid; selecting down releases all all door and gear uplocks
Does the type of EICAS gear indication change?
Yes, the EICAS landing gear position indication displays the expanded gear position indication when the alternate extension system is used
Do the doors close when the gear is down after an alternate selection?
No, during alternate extension all the hydraulically powered gear doors remain open
Can the gear be retracted after an alternate selection?
Following an alternate extension, the gear can be retracted by the normal system if it is operating; select DN then UP to retract gear using the normal system
Steering is achieved using which controls?
Tiller and rudder pedals
What is the greatest angle each will turn the nosewheel?
Tiller up to 70 degrees, pedals up to 7 degrees
What would cause a CONFIG GEAR STEERING EICAS warning message?
This warning accompanied by an aural alert is displayed if the main gear aft axles are not centred and locked when takeoff thrust is applied
Which hydraulic system powers the normal brakes?
Right system
If the right hydraulics fail, how is alternate brakes selected?
Automatically (no pilot action required)
Which hydraulic system powers the alternate brakes?
Centre system
If the Right hydraulic system has failed and the Centre system contents are reading zero is any braking available?
Yes, reserve brakes; C1 primary pump using fluid from below the standpipe in the centre hydraulic system gives reserve braking
What condition will cause the BRAKE SOURCE light to illuminate?
BRAKE SOURCE displays if both Right hydraulics and Centre/Reserve hydraulic system pressures are low
When Normal brakes are in operation is antiskid available?
Yes
When Alternate brakes are in operation is antiskid available?
Yes
If the Normal antiskid system fails can you manually switch to the Alternate antiskid system?
No, changeover from normal brakes to alternate brakes (and therefore antiskid to alternate antiskid) is an automatic function, occurring when the right hydraulic system fails
With which hydraulic system with the Autobrake operate?
System only operates when normal brake system is operating
With RTO selected when would the brakes be applied?
On the ground, with groundspeed above 85 knots and both thrust levers are retarded to idle
For a normal landing when will the Autobrake system apply the brakes?
After landing, Autobrake application begins when both thrust levers are retarded to idle and the wheels have spun up
Which actions could disarm the Autobrake after landing?
The Autobrake system disarms if any of the following occur:
- Pedal braking applied
- Either thrust lever advanced after landing
- Speedbrake lever is moved to the DOWN detent after the Speedbrakes have deployed on the ground
- Disarm or OFF position selected on the AUTOBRAKE selector
- Autobrake fault
- Normal antiskid fault
- Loss of internal data from the ADIRU
- Autobrake is applied after loss of normal brake hydraulic pressure
Which hydraulic system pressurises the accumulator pressure?
The brake accumulator is pressurised by the right hydraulic system
Where are the brake temperatures and tyre pressures displayed?
On the Gear synoptic
