Landforms Flashcards
What is a MEANDER
A curve in the river that can turn into an Ox-Bow lake
What is an OX-BOW LAKE
It is a cut of meander which is often in the shape of a horseshoe. It generally dries up very quickly as their is no source of water
At what course of a river are you most likely to find MEANDERS and OX-BOW LAKES
You are most likely to OX-BOW LAKES and MEANDERS in the middle course of a river
What is a delta and how is it formed? Also, what kind of landform is it?
A delta is a vast land of offloaded sediment. It is created when a river meats either the sea or a lake. As it slows down it loses its energy and therefore cant carry sediment. It therefore offloads it onto the land. This means that it is a depositional landform.
How is a waterfall formed
If the river bed has to layers of rock. One hard and one soft, as the water runs over it, it will start to ware away the soft rock which creates an overhang of hard rock. This means that water flows over almost an edge as there is no soft rock for it to fall onto
What is a RIVER CLIFF
A bank that has been worn away into a steep flat edge
How are river cliffs formed
As water erodes the bank it will start to from a square face. If the water levels then drop, the worn away bank will be left and therefore creates a river cliff
What is the part of the river called that leads into the sea or a lake
The MOUTH of the river
