- allows us to see tops and size of buildings
- us usually taken as planes are close to ground
- distorts scale of buildings (foreground looks much bigger than background)

- camera points directly to earths surface as 90
- have regular scale and shape and size are accurately depicted
- can be difficult to make out things when high above vertically

- uneven shapes
- clear water is darker than muddy water ( you can see the ground in clear water)
- trees are dark and natural forests will be unevenly shaped
- rivers are dark and twisty and big
- shrubs and single trees look like dots

- have straight edges
- have even patterns
- main roads are usually straight
- secondary roads are narrower and bend
- roads often meet at right angles
- fields with tall plants appear darker than ones with short grass
- water and cultivated land look smooth
