How was Hamburg regenerated?
- the physical infrastructure was replaced which made it more accessible and modernised.
- Hafen City had a regeneration of Speicher Stadt (old warehouses).
- they kept many of their traditional designs
What are the charges over time in land use?
1) CBD located where the city first developed, where all major roads join
2) A manufacturing zone develops
3) Migrants live in inner city where housing is cheap but has poor quality but close to jobs
4) Public transport allows richer people to live further out in suburbs
5) City becomes congested for industry. This moves to suburbs
6) Inner city becomes poor
7) City expands and commuting becomes longer from suburbs. Regeneration occurs
