Lambert Simnel Flashcards
Who was Lambert Simnel?
Born around 1477, at age 10 he was trained to act Posh. This was because the Yorkists wanted to initially claim he was Richard Duke of York. They later changed their mind and claimed him to be Edward Earl of Warwick, son of George, Duke of Clarence, Edward IV’s brother. After the loss at the Battle of Stoke Simnel worked in the royal Kitchen.
What did Henry do to counter the claim?
After the Yorkist parade through the streets, claiming the boy with them was Edward, Henry brought the real Edward Earl of Warwick out and did the same thing.
What happened before the Battle of Stoke?
Margret of Burgundy (Richard III’s sister) supplied and shipped 2000 Flemish Mercenaries to Ireland in preparation for the invasion.
What happened at the Battle of Stoke?
On June 16th 1487, the English army and the mercenaries engaged in combat. henry’s army was tactically split into 3 separate parts, while the opposing side had little to no form. One of the main reasons Henry won was because of the Mercenaries inability to understand the high ground advantage as they gave it up, most likely why they lost.
