Lake district: managing environments sustainably as a National park Flashcards
3 aims of national parks:
- protect and conserve areas of countryside/landscape of national importance
- promoting public access for recreation and leisure
- allowing local economies to flourish
annual grant from government
managed by NPA’s (national park authorities)
restricts inappropriate development in the area
205, imposed a 5mph speed limit on Lake Windermere for boats-stopping noisy based recreational activities such as jet-skiing
problem with the speed limit on windermere
people move their activites to other lakes where there are no restrictions=loss of tourism in the lake district
use of zoning
more isolated areas in the NP are reserved as quiet eco-zones, while mass toursim is concentrated in more accessible areas e.g. Keswick, Windermere and Ambleside
education
informs people of sustainable techniques that can be used to help protect/conserve environment. e.g. Brockhles provides a taster venue showcasing local foods and products demonstrating sustainable water and energy usage, and encouraging sustainable transport choices e.g. Drive Less See more Campaign
