A

One of the following:
* Ultra poor areas still lack educational facilities despite access for the wealthy
* Slum areas such as Makoko are dangerous with very high crime rates
* 40% of workers are in the informal economy which is unregulated, has low job security and doesn’t benefit the government through tax
* Only 1% of Lagos households are connected to sewers making sanitation in the city very poor
* Growing populations and trade has led to high levels of air and water pollution. Many of the city’s industries are highly polluting and release toxic chemicals into surrounding air and water.

Q

What are some planning solutions in Lagos?

A

The first is a floating sustainable school. The idea being to use waste and recycled products in order to produce classrooms which can float on the lagoon and ach support up to 100 pupils. The design is simple to build and maintain and it reduces the cost of education and increases its accessibility for the poorest slum dwellers living on the Lagoon.
