Lacrimal apparatus Flashcards
What forms the lacrimal apparatus?
There are 2 parts to the lacrimal apparatus: the larger orbital and the smaller palpebral aspects.
Where is the location of the orbital lacrimal apparatus?
In the lacrimal fossa of the frontal bone.
Where is the location of the smaller palpebral lacrimal apparatus?
Inferior to levator palpabrae superioris.
What are the steps of lacrimal activity?
Palpebral lacrimal gland secretion > empties into the lateral part of superior conjunctival fornix > fluid accumulates from lateral to medial as person blinks (orbicularis oculi) > fluid enters lacrimal punctum > lacrimal canaliculi each on upper and lower eyelids > lacrimal canaliculi eventually join the lacrimal lake
